Ernie Francis Jr. captures TRANS AM Series Championship

Chris Dyson in the No. 20 Plaid Mustang won the pole position in qualifying, led every lap of the 29-lap race on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway and clocked the fastest time of the session on his way to his third win of the season, but it wasn’t enough to derail Ernie Francis Jr. (No. 98 Frameless Shower Doors Ford Mustang) in his drive to a sixth career title in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli.

Dyson mathematically had a chance at the championship if he were to win the season finale and Francis finished last. But with Francis taking second, the points from Dyson’s perfect weekend still weren’t enough to keep Francis from scoring a second consecutive TA title.

Despite coming up shy of his championship goal, the second-year TA driver was happy after the race.
